In 1984, Dr. Dre of the World Class Wreckin' Cru created bootleg mixtapes for a Japanese-American man named Steve Yano.
Steve Yano sold them at his booth at the Roadium Swap Meet in Torrance, California.
In 1987, Dr. Dre passed the torch to Tony A. to continue creating the 4 track mixtapes.
Some of the Artists featured were Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Eazy-E, MC Ren, DJ Quik, 2nd II None, Hi-C, AMG, Young MC, JJ Fad, Tone Loc and more.
Every Artist featured on these mixtapes eventually went on to become gold/platinum recording artists.
These mixtapes created such a huge buzz on the streets of L.A., they became known by most fans as the holy grail of mixtapes.
